The future of manual transmissions do not look bright as mentioned by the head of BMW M -

Frank van Meel, Head BMW M, mentioned that a point of view technique, the future does not look bright for manual transmissions such as DCT [Dual-Clutch transmission] and automatic transmissions are faster and have better fuel consumption. However, it seems that many consumers still prefer to buy a manual car while the automaker reluctant to produce a manual car.

Van Meel noted that many consumers still prefer manual car, BMW would not remove something that the consumer wants and therefore, BMW will always produce manual cars alongside performance models of M. In Besides that, Van Meel also said that the product of the M division can be capped at 0 horsepower by adding more power or torque would most likely be on the line.
